Yemen and UN Discuss Establishing Early Warning System for Climate Risks in Al-Mahrah

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:
Yemeni officials and United Nations representatives discussed on Tuesday the implementation steps for a technical project aimed at establishing an early warning system in the Hawf District of Al-Mahrah Governorate to enhance response to climate-related risks.
During the meeting, the Director of Al-Ghaidah International Airport, Musaab bin Hamed, met with the coordinator of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), Mazen Al-Daarahi. They reviewed existing cooperation in the governorate and the programs implemented by the FAO to support meteorological monitoring and mitigate the impacts of climate fluctuations.
The discussion focused on the mechanisms for installing and operating a specialized meteorological monitoring station in coordination with Civil Aviation and Meteorology authorities. This station is expected to improve the accuracy of climate forecasts and issue early warnings to the population regarding potential hazards.
Bin Hamed reaffirmed the commitment of Al-Ghaidah Airport management to providing the necessary technical and administrative support to ensure the project’s success. He praised the FAO’s efforts in supporting local communities and raising their readiness to confront climate change.
