Tensions Erupt Within Ataq Axis in Shabwa Over Delay in Soldiers’ Salaries

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:
Camps affiliated with the Ataq Axis witnessed a state of tension on Tuesday after a number of soldiers carried out protest actions within the axis, following the continued suspension of their salaries for several months.
Participants in the protest reported that the ongoing financial delay—now reaching nearly five months—prompted them to express their frustration after all attempts to communicate with the relevant authorities had failed. They stressed that the difficult living conditions are placing significant pressure on the soldiers and their families.
During the protest actions, demonstrators set fire to worn-out tires as a symbolic means of drawing attention to their demands, emphasizing that their protest stemmed from a sense of deliberate obstruction of their financial entitlements, despite their continued performance of military duties without interruption.
The soldiers affirmed that their actions were peaceful and not intended to disrupt operations within the axis, but rather aimed at demanding their legitimate financial rights. They warned, however, that continued disregard of their demands could lead to a further escalation of the situation.
The protesters called on the leadership of the Third Military Region and the local authorities in Shabwa Governorate to intervene urgently to resolve the issue, disburse the delayed salaries and entitlements, and put an end to the growing tension within military units.
