On Thursday, Presidential Leadership Council Decision No. (3) for the year 2026 was issued, stipulating the removal of Faraj Salmin Al-Bahsani from the Presidential Leadership Council, on the grounds of serious constitutional and legal violations, according to the text of the decision.
The decision, issued by the Head of the Presidential Leadership Council Rashad Al-Alimi, clarified that Al-Bahsani violated the principle of collective responsibility and breached his constitutional duties by exploiting his position to provide political cover for illegal military movements carried out by the dissolved Southern Transitional Council (STC). These movements included mobilizing forces from outside Hadramawt province with the intent to attack the province and its civilian and military institutions.
The decision pointed to Al-Bahsani’s defiance of the sovereign decisions issued by the Presidential Leadership Council and his obstruction of efforts to unify the military and security forces under the commands of the Ministries of Defense and Interior. Additionally, it cited his support for unilateral measures that compromise the unity of the state and its territorial integrity, which undermined state institutions in Hadramawt and Al-Mahrah provinces.
The decision also held him responsible for damaging regional and international efforts aimed at de-escalation and protecting civilians, as well as for misusing his constitutional capacity by making statements outside the official state position, which harmed the state’s credibility both domestically and internationally.
The decision added that these actions collectively contributed to threatening national unity, state security, and the security of neighboring countries, serving the interests of the state’s adversaries, primarily the Houthi militias and allied terrorist organizations.
The decision also included a reference to the confirmation of a permanent health condition afflicting Al-Bahsani that prevents him from performing his duties, and his exploitation of this condition to disrupt the Council’s work and his repeated absence from institutional communication during critical security periods.
Article One of the decision stipulated the removal of Faraj Salmin Al-Bahsani’s membership from the Presidential Leadership Council, effective from the date of its issuance, and it is to be published in the Official Gazette.
