Local sources reported on Monday that armed clashes broke out at the gates of the Special Forces headquarters in Al-Mahra Governorate, eastern Yemen, between “Nation’s Shield” (Dir’ al-Watan) forces and “Southern Transitional Council” (STC) militias stationed inside the facility.
The sources explained that the clashes were triggered by ongoing disputes regarding the withdrawal process. The Nation’s Shield forces are demanding that the STC withdraw with only their personal sidearms, whereas the STC forces refuse and insist on departing with their heavy weaponry.
Meanwhile, dozens of citizens continue to gather at the camp’s gates, waiting for an opportunity to enter, amid growing fears of looting and pillaging of facilities and equipment should a security vacuum occur.
