Member of Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council Calls on All Southern Components to Participate in Southern Dialogue Conference

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:

Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council member Abdullah Al-Alimi praised the significant and sincere efforts of Saudi Arabia in working to normalize conditions and protect civilians across various governorates, particularly Hadramawt, Shabwa, and Al-Mahra.

In a post on the platform “X,” Al-Alimi expressed his deep appreciation for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s fraternal and genuine stance—its leadership, government, and people—commending its welcome and readiness to sponsor and host the Southern–Southern Dialogue Conference. He described this step as reflecting the Kingdom’s commitment to supporting peace and stability efforts and to standing by the people of the South in opening a comprehensive and responsible dialogue track to discuss the Southern Issue and seek fair and equitable solutions that meet their aspirations.

Al-Alimi also expressed appreciation for the southern leaders and components that welcomed the invitation and showed readiness to participate, stressing that serious and responsible dialogue is the true gateway to bringing viewpoints closer together and unifying visions.

The Presidential Leadership Council member called on all southern components, forces, and entities—including the Southern Transitional Council (STC)—to engage actively and positively in the conference with a constructive and responsible spirit, to place the interests of the South above all considerations, and to work toward comprehensive remedies for their just cause based on partnership, understanding, and respect for the popular will, in a way that strengthens southern unity and supports security and stability.

Saudi Arabia had welcomed the request by Yemen’s Presidential Leadership Council for Riyadh to host a conference aimed at resolving the crisis in southern Yemen and bringing together all southern components.

In a statement, the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs called on “all southern components to participate effectively in the conference to develop a comprehensive vision for fair solutions to the Southern Issue that meet the legitimate aspirations of southerners.”

Earlier on Saturday, the Yemeni News Agency (SABA) reported that the Chairman of the Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council had submitted a request to the Kingdom to host a conference to resolve the crisis in the South.

The agency quoted Al-Alimi as saying that he hopes the conference will include all southern components, forces, and figures without exception, including the STC, “in a way that reflects the South’s diversity and pluralism, prevents exclusion or marginalization, and avoids the repetition of past grievances.”

He emphasized that resolving the Southern Issue cannot be monopolized by any single party or component, nor reduced to unilateral measures.

On Friday, the President of the STC in Yemen, Aidarous Al-Zubaidi, announced the start of a two-year transitional period to be followed by a referendum on the independence of the South.
