Yemeni–Saudi Meeting to Follow Up on Implementation of Prisoner Exchange Agreement

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:
The Saudi Ambassador to Yemen, Mohammed Al Jaber, met in Riyadh with the Yemeni government’s negotiating delegation for the detainees’ file. This meeting is part of ongoing efforts to support humanitarian progress and end the suffering of detainees and their families.
The Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported that Ambassador Al Jaber praised the significant efforts made by the government negotiating team, which resulted in an agreement regarding the detainees. He reaffirmed Saudi Arabia’s steadfast support for the full release of all detainees, abductees, and those forcibly disappeared by all parties.
The Saudi Ambassador emphasized the importance of completing implementation procedures, beginning the exchange of lists and records, and accelerating the application of the executive mechanism for the exchange process. The goal is to facilitate the release of all detainees and achieve the desired humanitarian objective.
Al Jaber noted that these steps would contribute to alleviating the suffering of families and bring joy to the hearts of the detainees’ relatives through the safe return of their loved ones.
On Tuesday, the Yemeni government and the Houthi group reached an agreement to exchange 2,900 prisoners and detainees held by both sides. However, sources told Yemen Monitor that the separate negotiation track with the Houthis mediated via the United Nations has not yet been finalized.
