STC Militias Seize Nashtun Port, Ending the Presence of Nation’s Shield Forces in Al-Mahra

Yemen Monitor | Newsroom:

Al-Mahra governorate has witnessed a new escalation following an attack by militias affiliated with the Southern Transitional Council (STC) on Nashtun Port and fuel-tax checkpoints belonging to the Nation’s Shield Forces.

Local sources confirmed that the attack took place overnight, during which STC militias gained full control of the port and expelled the Nation’s Shield Forces, loyal to Presidential Leadership Council Chairman Rashad al-Alimi, from the area.

Sheikh Saad Danan Sa’teen, an advisor to the governor of Al-Mahra, expressed strong dissatisfaction with the escalation, describing the STC’s assault on Nashtun Port and the fuel-tax sites as “a clear violation of all previous agreements.”

In an official statement, Sa’teen said the governorate had long sought to facilitate and activate mechanisms of developmental and security partnership, particularly at the airport, but that the nighttime attack on Nashtun Port came as an unexpected shock to everyone.

He added that the assault represents a dangerous step that could provoke retaliatory reactions and further escalate tensions, warning of the consequences of what he described as unilateral measures that could undermine stability in the governorate.

While no official comment has yet been issued by the STC, developments on the ground in Al-Mahra indicate an intensifying struggle among various armed factions for control and influence in the region.
