Yemeni Presidency Praises Saudi Efforts to De-escalate

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:

A senior official in the office of the Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council praised, on Friday, Saudi efforts to de-escalate and restore normalcy in the eastern provinces. This comes hours after a joint Saudi-Emirati military team arrived at the presidential palace in Aden for urgent consultations with the country’s leadership.

The source stated that the visit of the joint team falls within the framework of moves led by Riyadh and Abu Dhabi to enhance the unity of the Presidential Leadership Council and the government, and to contain recent tensions in the eastern provinces. He affirmed that the Kingdom is undertaking a pivotal role in leading de-escalation efforts, stemming from its consistent commitment to Yemen’s security and stability and improving the living conditions of its population.

The source clarified that the consultations to be held with the military team will focus on addressing recent unilateral measures. This includes the departure of any forces brought in from outside the eastern provinces, enabling the government and local authorities to perform their exclusive tasks in accordance with the constitution and the law, and respecting the governing frameworks of the transitional phase, foremost among them the Power Transfer Declaration and the Riyadh Agreement.

He indicated that the state leadership considers that any further escalation would undermine the gains achieved during the past period, divert efforts from confronting the Houthi militias, obstruct the path of economic reforms, and further exacerbate the deteriorating humanitarian situation.

The source reaffirmed the state leadership’s commitment to political solutions and its support for the efforts of brothers in Saudi Arabia and the UAE, as well as joint work with regional and international partners to maintain a united front in facing the Houthi threat backed by the Iranian regime.
