UN Secretary-General António Guterres stated that the developments witnessed in Yemen’s Hadramawt Governorate constitute a dangerous escalation.
In an interview with Al Arabiya during his visit to Riyadh, he added that what happened in Hadramawt is a dangerous escalation, referring to the Southern Transitional Council’s (STC) military takeover of eastern governorates.
The UN Secretary-General also stated that the Houthis’ detention of UN staff is unacceptable and that his priority is securing the release of UN personnel detained by the group.
Guterres, who is visiting Riyadh, explained that he discussed regional crises and UN reforms with the Saudi Crown Prince. He noted that the Security Council does not reflect today’s world reality and praised Saudi Arabia’s deep cooperation with the United Nations.
