STC Attacks Presidential Leadership Council Chairman, Describes Current Partnership as “Dysfunctional”

Yemen Monitor – Newsroom:

The Southern Transitional Council (STC) launched a strong attack on Presidential Leadership Council (PLC) Chairman Rashad Al-Alimi, accusing him of obstructing the STC’s activities and being the one who initiated unilateral measures.

Ali Al-Kathiri, head of the STC’s National Assembly, said in an interview with the UAE-based Sky News Arabia that the council’s recent movements aim to protect the security and stability of the South.

The STC official accused Al-Alimi of being the party that began taking unilateral steps and rejected allegations of overreach made by the PLC chairman against the STC. He added that the council’s actions did not affect any of the northern governorates.

“The security measures are a right that cannot be compromised,” he said, describing what he called the “continuous obstruction” by the PLC chairman and others to any security measures pursued by the STC.

Al-Kathiri explained that the actions taken by the STC were based on its partnership within the PLC and the government, stressing that the council would not hesitate to take whatever measures are necessary to protect the interests of its people and maintain stability in its governorates when the partnership becomes “dysfunctional” and decision-making becomes “subject to obstruction.”

Earlier, the PLC chairman met with ambassadors of countries sponsoring Yemen’s political process and described the STC’s actions in Hadramawt and Al-Mahrah as unilateral measures that undermine the transitional process. He also called for the withdrawal of military forces brought in from outside the two governorates.
