“Hadramawt Protection Forces” Repel STC Advance Toward the Plateau, Force Withdrawal

Yemen Monitor – Hadramawt – Exclusive:
Limited clashes erupted on Sunday in the Hadramawt Plateau region in eastern Yemen between military units affiliated with the Southern Transitional Council (STC) and the Hadramawt Protection Forces, which are aligned with the Tribal Alliance.
A private source told Yemen Monitor that STC-affiliated forces attempted to advance toward the Hadramawt Plateau but were confronted by the Hadramawt Protection Forces, which halted their progress and forced them to retreat to recently established positions.
According to the source, brief clashes occurred this evening as Hadramawt Protection Forces took up positions in the mountains overlooking the main road connecting Mukalla with the plateau. From these vantage points, they were able to compel the STC forces to withdraw.
In a related development, the commander of the Corporate Protection Camp under the Hadrami Elite Forces, Brig. Ahmed Al-Ma’ari, announced the handover of the camp to the Hadramawt Protection Forces, which operate under the Hadramawt Tribal Alliance.
Last Thursday, the Tribal Alliance held a meeting during which it authorized its forces to confront what it described as military groups arriving from outside Hadramawt, announcing the launch of what it called “armed resistance.”
Meanwhile, Hadramawt’s newly appointed governor, Salem Al-Khanbashi, arrived earlier in Mukalla and convened a meeting with the Security Committee, stressing the need for calm among all parties and the importance of safeguarding Hadramawt’s security and stability.
