Yemen’s Al-Wadea Border Security Foils Attempt to Smuggle 24 Kilograms of Hashish

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:

The Protection and Security Battalion at Yemen’s Al-Wadea border crossing announced that it had thwarted the smuggling of 24.5 kilograms of hashish that was on its way to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, following a thorough inspection operation at the battalion’s Souq checkpoint.

The battalion stated that the operation comes as part of its ongoing efforts to block avenues for smuggling narcotics and prohibited materials that threaten community safety and the local and regional economy. This seizure is considered one of the most significant security achievements in recent times.

Colonel Osama Al-Asad, Commander of the Protection and Security Battalion at Al-Wadea Port, affirmed that this seizure represents a continuation of extensive efforts aimed at preventing the misuse of Yemeni territory as a “smuggling corridor” for drugs to neighboring countries.

He added: “We are working with high professionalism and an advanced level of readiness to confront smuggling networks, and we will not allow our borders to become a gateway for threats to our communities or those of our neighbors.”

Colonel Al-Asad explained that drug-smuggling gangs in Yemen operate within broader networks linked to supporting entities, including the Iran-backed Houthi group, which—according to him—attempts to use smuggling operations to secure unlawful sources of funding and reinforce its destabilizing agendas.

This achievement comes amid increasing joint efforts between Yemeni security units and regional bodies to strengthen counter-smuggling operations, enhance border-control capabilities, and confront groups exploiting security conditions for illegal gains.

The Protection and Security Battalion at Al-Wadea reiterated its full commitment to safeguarding national security and promoting stability by confronting organized smuggling activities and continuously working to prevent risks targeting Yemen and neighboring countries alike.
