Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:
Medical sources in the Yemeni government reported that the dengue fever epidemic has claimed 59 lives since the beginning of 2025, while the total number of recorded infections has risen to 12,416 cases in various areas under its control.
Taysir Al-Samaei, the media official at the Ministry of Health office in Taiz Governorate, explained that Aden topped the list of the most affected governorates in terms of death toll, recording 38 deaths, followed by Lahj with 17 deaths.
In contrast, Taiz recorded only one death this year, compared to 3,512 infections—indicating, according to Al-Samaei, a notable 80% decrease compared to previous years.
Al-Samaei noted that the number of infections in Aden (2,579 cases) is lower than in Taiz, yet the mortality rate there is significantly higher. This calls for a study of the causes and an evaluation of the factors that led to this discrepancy, with the aim of developing more effective plans to reduce deaths in the future.
