Taiz Security Announces Arrest of Dozens of Suspects and Houthi Cells Planning Assassinations and Bombings

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:

The leadership of the security services in Taiz Governorate confirmed the arrest of dozens involved in public-danger crimes and organized crime, in addition to intelligence cells collaborating with the Houthi group, during a security meeting held Wednesday in the city of Al-Turba, south of the governorate.

The meeting, chaired by Taiz Governor and head of the Security Committee Nabil Shamsan, clarified that among those arrested are individuals accused of carrying out assassinations and terrorist bombings—including those involved in the assassination of the World Food Programme official, Moayad Hamidi, in July 2023.

Shamsan stressed that these security achievements were the result of effective coordination and a heightened level of security awareness, which contributed to uncovering the ambiguity behind numerous crimes and assassinations in Taiz, Lahj, and Aden, and foiling plots that the Houthi group was planning to seize control of these governorates, according to video-recorded confessions from the detainees.

He called for expanding the scope of security and military coordination among the liberated governorates within the framework of a unified national battle to confront shared security threats, emphasizing the importance of continuing operations and strengthening security and field performance.

The meeting was attended by the Commander of the Tur Al-Bahah Axis and the 4th Mountain Infantry Brigade, Major General Abubakr Al-Jubouli; the Assistant Director of Taiz Police and Commander of the Special Security Forces, Brigadier General Jamil Aqalan; as well as the directors of Al-Shamaytayn District and the district police.

The attendees approved a set of operational and legal measures to reinforce the continuation of security duties, boost cooperation, and expand security coverage to enhance stability and protect citizens.
