HRW: Two Years of Enforced Disappearance for Journalist Naseh Shaker in STC Prisons

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:
Human Rights Watch (HRW) has condemned the enforced disappearance of Yemeni journalist Naseh Shaker by forces of the Southern Transitional Council (STC). Shaker was arrested two years ago and has not been granted access to a lawyer.
The organization stated on its account on (X) platform that today marks the second anniversary of the STC’s arrest and enforced disappearance of the journalist.
A report issued by the organization in September 2025 indicated that the Southern Transitional Council has committed multiple violations against journalists. These violations ranged from:
- Arbitrary arrest and enforced disappearance without legal justification.
- Torture and inhumane treatment inside detention centers.
- The seizure of media institutions and press unions, and the obstruction of their work.
The organization revealed that journalists in areas under STC control are subjected to threats and strict restrictions on their movement, including checkpoints and constant surveillance.
Human Rights Watch emphasized that these violations threaten press freedom in southern Yemen, calling on local authorities to immediately release Naseh Shaker and other arbitrarily detained journalists.
