News Agency: US Strike Targets Prominent Al-Qaeda Leader in Yemen

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:
Abu Muhammad Al-San’ani, a senior security official in the Al-Qaeda organization in Yemen, was killed as a result of a US drone airstrike in Al-Shabwan area of Wadi Ubaidah, east of Marib governorate.
A security source in Marib governorate indicated to the Novosti news agency that Al-San’ani died from severe wounds sustained during the strike, with the organization’s members unable to save him due to the severity of his condition after he was transported to one of their hideouts.
This strike comes as part of a series of operations targeting Al-Qaeda leaders in Yemen. The last such operation was in May, when a US drone killed five of the organization’s leaders, including Abu Al-Ata Al-San’ani, Hassan Al-San’ani, and Abu Muhammad Al-Baidhani, in a raid on an organization stronghold in the Abyan governorate in the south of the country.
The Al-Qaeda organization exploits the ongoing conflict between the internationally recognized Yemeni government and the Houthi group, which has entered its tenth year, to strengthen its influence in various parts of the country.
Yemen is experiencing its worst humanitarian crisis ever, according to the United Nations. The conflict, ongoing since September 2014, had resulted in the deaths of 377,000 people by the end of 2021 and economic losses estimated at $126 billion, while approximately 80% of the population (35 million people) requires urgent humanitarian assistance.
