“Red Sea Security” Tops Talks Between Yemeni and Egyptian Prime Ministers in Doha

Yemeni Prime Minister Salem Saleh bin Buraik met with his Egyptian counterpart Mostafa Madbouly on Monday in the Qatari capital, Doha, to review the strong fraternal relations between the two countries and explore prospects for joint cooperation. The two leaders emphasized the importance of coordinating efforts to maintain the security and safety of international navigation in Bab al-Mandab Strait and the Red Sea, given its strategic significance for Arab and regional national security.

During the meeting, held on the sidelines of the Second World Summit for Social Development, the two sides discussed regional and international developments, affirming that Sana’a and Cairo share identical views regarding the protection of vital maritime routes from threats targeting the stability of international trade and shipping in the Red Sea. They stressed the need to coordinate positions to confront any attempts to destabilize regional security.

The talks also addressed the situation of the Yemeni community in Egypt, with the Yemeni Prime Minister praising the facilities and support provided by the Egyptian government to Yemenis residing and studying in Egypt, as well as the official and popular care extended to them, which reflects the depth of the historical relations between the two brotherly peoples.

Bin Buraik expressed Yemen’s appreciation for Egypt’s steadfast stance in supporting the legitimate government and for its efforts aimed at achieving peace and stability in Yemen and the region. He affirmed that Egypt represents a strategic depth for Yemen and a key partner in protecting Arab national security, particularly in the Red Sea.

For his part, Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly reiterated his country’s firm position in supporting Yemen’s legitimate government, emphasizing the importance of restoring security and stability in Yemen due to its direct impact on the safety of maritime navigation in the Red Sea and the Bab al-Mandab Strait, especially amid the current challenges facing global shipping and trade.

The two sides agreed on the importance of reactivating the Yemeni-Egyptian Higher Joint Committee as soon as possible and enhancing investment and trade partnerships between the two countries, while emphasizing the need to benefit from Egyptian expertise in the fields of energy, capacity building, institutional development, and healthcare.
