UN: Rising Landmine Incidents Threaten Civilian Safety in Al-Hudaidah Governorate

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:

The United Nations Mission to Support the Hudaidah Agreement (UNMHA) recorded nine incidents related to landmines and explosive remnants of war in the governorate between July and September 2025.

These incidents resulted in the deaths of three people — a man, a woman, and a girl — and the injury of six others in the districts of Al-Hali, At-Tuhayat, Bayt al-Faqih, Hays, and Ad-Durayhimi.

In an official statement, the mission confirmed that these incidents reflect a continuing pattern of dangers posed by landmines to civilians, further exacerbating the fragile humanitarian situation in the area.

UNMHA emphasized the need to intensify mine action and awareness efforts to reduce harm and protect affected communities.

The mission also called on the international community and relevant authorities to support initiatives aimed at clearing landmines and explosive remnants of war, stressing the importance of joint action to safeguard civilians and promote stability in Al-Hudaidah Governorate, which continues to suffer from the repercussions of the ongoing conflict.
