STC Forces Release Writer and Politician Ahmed Humeedan After One Day in Detention
Yemen Monitor / Aden / Exclusive:
Local sources informed “Yemen Monitor” on Wednesday evening that security forces affiliated with the Southern Transitional Council (STC) have released the writer and politician Ahmed Nasser Humeedan (74 years old), one day after his arrest in the temporary capital, Aden.
Earlier, Humeedan ‘s son had appealed to the relevant and security authorities to disclose his father’s fate and condition, noting that his father is 75 years old and cannot endure the hardship of detention.
He also called on the Journalists’ Syndicate and all human rights organizations to stand in solidarity with his father and work with the relevant authorities to disclose his fate and secure his immediate release.
On Tuesday, security forces affiliated with the STC had arrested Humeedan, along with the former Director General of Al-Buraiqah District and head of the Democratic Civil Movement, Hani Al-Yazidi.
Local sources clarified that the arrests coincided with peaceful demonstrations organized by some city residents demanding the improvement of basic services. The sources indicated that security forces used live ammunition to disperse the protesters and prevented them from continuing their protest.
The writer and politician Ahmed Humeedan is a well-known journalistic voice in Aden. He has a weekly column on the “Yemen Monitor” website since 2016, addressing political and social issues concerning public affairs and the citizens’ living conditions.
His arrest caused widespread concern in human rights and media circles, which demanded the prompt release of him, Al-Yazidi, and all detainees, and to guarantee citizens’ right to peaceful expression of their demands without restriction or violation.
