Taiz Bids Farewell to Iftihan Al-Mashhari… Security Forces Vow to Pursue the Perpetrators

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:
Today, Tuesday, the city of Taiz laid to rest the body of martyr Iftihan Al-Mashhari in a solemn funeral procession attended by residents of the city, who expressed their anger and rejection of the heinous crime that targeted her. They affirmed that her blood would remain a beacon of Taiz’s resilience and determination.
The mourners chanted angry slogans condemning her assassination, demanding the swift arrest of those involved and their prosecution, stressing that the continuation of such crimes threatens security and social peace in the governorate.
In a statement, the Joint Security Campaign – comprising the Taiz Military Axis Command and the General Police Department – confirmed that the assassination was not merely an attack on her life but a desperate attempt to strike at the spirit of Taiz and the dignity of its people. The statement added that this crime sparked wide public awareness, embodying the values of resistant solidarity and proving that Taiz cannot be broken or defeated.
According to the statement, the security forces launched operations from the very first moment, in full coordination with the Ministries of Interior and Defense and under the direct supervision of Presidential Leadership Council Chairman Dr. Rashad Al-Alimi. These operations resulted in the killing of the prime suspect in the crime while resisting the campaign, the arrest of six direct suspects and seven others under investigation, as well as the capture of 22 wanted individuals in other criminal cases – bringing the total number of detainees to 34.
The campaign stressed that it would continue carrying out its national duty despite the field challenges imposed by war and the siege on the city. It emphasized the unity between army and security units, with tasks focused on strengthening security, protecting rights and freedoms, and respecting citizens’ right to peaceful expression and protest.
The statement concluded by affirming that the martyrdom of Iftihan Al-Mashhari marked a turning point that awakened Taiz and placed responsibility on everyone to continue the struggle: “Taiz will remain steadfast and resilient through the will of its people, strong with its army and security forces, and loyal to the sacrifices of its martyrs.”
Al-Mashhari was assassinated about two weeks ago in Taiz, sparking widespread attention and outrage across Yemen, amid growing calls for justice and the harshest punishment for those involved in the incident.
