Al-Alimi Directs Commemoration of Martyr “Iftihan Al-Mashhari”

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:

Yemen’s Presidential Leadership Council Chairman, Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, has directed that the memory of martyr Iftihan Al-Mashhari—Director-General of the Cleaning and Improvement Fund in Taiz Governorate, who was assassinated last week in the city—be preserved through a package of symbolic and community measures, alongside the continuation of the security campaign to apprehend the perpetrators and rid the governorate of terrorist and criminal hideouts.

According to directives sent to Taiz Governor and Security Committee Chairman Nabil Shamsan, the president stressed the need to press ahead with the security campaign to pursue those involved in assassinations and cells linked to the Houthi group, in order to reinforce the state’s presence and safeguard public peace.

The presidential directives also included: naming the street where she was assassinated after her, declaring an annual “Iftihan Day” for cleanliness and community initiatives in Taiz—with the participation of schools, universities, youth, and civil sectors—and establishing an annual award in her name to honor the exemplary employee in municipal and environmental services, in recognition of values of dedication and devotion to public service.

These decisions came a day after the funeral and burial of the martyr in her hometown in Al-Ma’afer District, with wide public participation that reflected her place in the hearts of the people of Taiz.

Al-Alimi had also made a phone call to the martyr’s father, Mr. Mohammed Ahmed Al-Mashhari, in which he renewed his heartfelt condolences to the family, affirming that she would remain a symbol of competence and devotion in public service, and praying that God grant her mercy and admit her to His vast gardens.

The president also spoke with the Taiz governor to review the latest security developments in the governorate.
