Yemeni Presidential Council Member Al-Alimi: We Want a “Decisive Battle” Against the Houthi

Yemen Monitor/ New York/ Exclusive:

The Yemeni government has called for genuine international support to achieve a “decisive battle” (or “swift/conclusive battle”) that would end the coup by the Iranian-backed Houthi group. It affirmed that the group is waging an unprecedented campaign of repression against citizens in areas under its control, fearing the renewal of the “Great September Spirit” that threatens its influence.

This call and these assurances were made by Dr. Abdullah Al-Alimi, member of the Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council (PLC), from New York in an interview with Al-Arabiya channel, which was monitored by “Yemen Monitor.” This took place on the sidelines of his participation in the United Nations General Assembly meetings, where he linked the inevitability of a military resolution with the necessity of protecting the achievements of the September 26 Revolution.

Al-Alimi confirmed that Yemen faces two fundamental challenges: “ending the Houthi militia and their coup, and the challenge of economic and service recovery.” In order to overcome years of attrition and suffering, he stressed that the legitimate government is not seeking intermittent battles but aims to achieve a “decisive” and conclusive “battle”.

Al-Alimi explained that achieving this goal requires “clear, specific, and coordinated arrangement” between the Yemeni land military forces and the regional coalition, and most importantly, “the presence of genuine international support” to ensure the conflict does not continue for more years and to end the Houthi’s “clannish” rule that has come to threaten the region and the world.

In response to questions about the PLC Chairman’s call for forming an international coalition to stop the Houthi threat to the Red Sea, Al-Alimi explained that the call aims to involve the international community on a broader scale, given the evolving nature of the Houthi threat.

He demanded that the international community stand by the coalition supporting legitimacy and the Yemeni people to end this danger, pointing out that Iran “to this moment, continues to supply the Houthi with weapons.” He recalled the recent seizure of a ship loaded with Iranian weapons.

The Houthi Fears the Republican Spirit and the Recapture of Sana’a

In the context of celebrating the 63rd anniversary of the September 26 Revolution, which liberated Yemen from the “era of darkness and the Imamate,” Al-Alimi indicated that the Houthi group deeply fears the renewal of republican awareness.

Al-Alimi asserted that the campaigns of arrests and abductions launched by the Houthi group in areas under its control, which have made all citizens there “hostages,” stem from its intense fear. The Houthi “fears the Great September Spirit” and fears “the recapture of Sana’a, the capital of September,” just as it fears the “Republican Spirit” that shows a unified stance against its adversary.

The PLC member considered that these fears confirm that the Houthi represents an extension of the defunct Imamate regime and has today turned into a “transnational terrorist organization” that draws its support and weapons from Iran and threatens international navigation.

Amidst these challenges, the legitimate government welcomed efforts to unify ranks, noting that the goal is to achieve a “broad national alignment” to confront the Houthi danger.

Al-Alimi warned that any efforts that fragment the ranks or any side conflicts are considered a “lifeline for the Houthi.” He stressed that the priority today must be unified and clear: ending the Houthi coup and addressing the deteriorating economic situation.

Al-Alimi clarified that the Yemeni delegation’s goal in participating in the UN meetings is to convey “one unified Yemeni voice” expressed by the PLC, assuring the world that Yemenis stand on solid ground toward “this Houthi danger that must be removed,” so that Yemen can restore its security and stability.
