Yemeni Foreign Minister Discusses Counterterrorism Cooperation with U.S. Official

Yemeni Foreign Minister Shaea al-Zandani met today in Geneva with Gregory LoGerfo, the U.S. State Department’s Counterterrorism Coordinator, to discuss prospects for joint cooperation between the two countries in combating terrorism.

The Yemeni Ministry of Foreign Affairs explained that the meeting addressed strengthening the strategic partnership between Yemen and the US in confronting terrorist organizations, in addition to reviewing the Yemeni government’s efforts to combat terrorism and cut off its sources of funding.

During the meeting, minister al-Zandani stressed the danger posed by the Houthi group and its coordination with extremist organizations inside and outside Yemen. He emphasized the need for serious engagement in addressing these threats and for supporting the capacities of national institutions and security agencies in a way that contributes to Yemen’s security and the stability of the region.
