Al-Alimi Discusses with Egyptian Prime Minister the Repercussions of Houthi Attacks on International Shipping

Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, Chairman of Yemen’s Presidential Leadership Council, met on Tuesday with Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly to review the serious repercussions of terrorist attacks carried out by the Houthi group against international shipping lanes and oil facilities, which pose a threat to global trade, increase the cost of maritime shipping and insurance, and cause damage to the marine environment and the economies of coastal states.

The meeting, held on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, also addressed the distinguished bilateral relations between the two countries and ways to strengthen them in various fields, in addition to discussing regional developments and mediation efforts to end the humanitarian suffering in the occupied Palestinian territories.

President Al-Alimi reiterated his gratitude to Egypt for its honorable stance in support of Yemen and its people, stressing the importance of joint coordination to confront regional challenges, foremost among them the Houthi threats to international navigation.
