Mohammed Saeed Al-Mekhlafi Surrenders to Taiz Police over Accusations in Al-Mashhari Assassination Case

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:

Taiz Police announced on Wednesday that Mohammed Saeed Al-Mekhlafi turned himself in to security authorities for questioning, after his name appeared in a leaked video containing confessions attributed to the suspect in the killing of Aftehan Al-Mashhari, Director General of the Cleaning Fund in the governorate.

The main suspect in the crime, Mohammed Sadiq, known as “Al-Basiq,” had appeared in a recorded video claiming that Al-Mekhlafi had incited him to carry out the assassination due to financial disputes. This prompted the security authorities to launch an urgent and comprehensive investigation to uncover the circumstances of the case and bring all those involved to justice.

Earlier, Taiz Police announced that the killer, “Al-Basiq,” was killed in an armed clash with a security campaign in Tabbat Al-Wakeel, in the Al-Rawdah neighborhood, after he resisted a security raid targeting his hideout. The operation resulted in the injury of five security personnel.

The campaign also managed to arrest Humam Murai, Arafat Ali Mansour, and Mohammed Sarhan, noting that they were wanted in connection with multiple criminal cases.

Taiz Police confirmed that investigations are ongoing to complete the case file and ensure accountability for everyone proven to be involved in the assassination of Al-Mashhari, which sparked widespread condemnation among the local community.
