Israeli Defense Minister Threatens to Assassinate Houthi Leader

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:

Israeli Foreign Minister Yisrael Katz has threatened to assassinate the leader of the Houthi movement, Abdul-Malik al-Houthi, and to raise the Israeli flag over Sana’a.

In a post on X today, Friday, Katz wrote:
“Abdul-Malik al-Houthi, your time will come. You will be sent to join the rest of your government body and all the criminals of the Axis of Evil who are waiting in the depths of hell.”

Katz was referring to the assassination by Israel of the Houthis’ (internationally unrecognized) Prime Minister Ahmed Ghalib al-Rahwi and several of his ministers in an Israeli airstrike that targeted a meeting in Sana’a in late August.

Katz added:
“The slogan written on the Houthis’ flag — ‘Death to Israel, Curse upon the Jews’ — will be replaced with the Israeli flag that will rise over the capital of a unified Yemen.”

Since the start of the war in Gaza, the Houthis have launched missile and drone attacks on Israel and on commercial vessels linked to it off the coast of Yemen.

In response, the Israeli military has carried out multiple deadly strikes on Yemen, targeting ports, energy facilities, and Sana’a International Airport.
