Floods in Marib Affect Over 8,000 Displaced Families

Yemen Monitor/Newsroom:
The emergency committee in Marib governorate has assessed significant damage caused by recent floods. A report from the governorate’s displaced persons unit stated that 8,684 displaced families were affected, with 1,246 families completely damaged and 7,438 partially damaged.
The committee, led by representative Abdulrabbu Miftah and the city’s Director-General, Mohammed bin Jalal, inspected the flood damage at the Al-Jafina displaced persons camp, Al-Rawdah, Al-Sharika, and October 14. They also evaluated urgent needs and protection efforts, such as building flood barriers and breakers.
During an emergency humanitarian meeting of the local council, Miftah highlighted the efforts of rescue teams, in cooperation with security agencies and civil defense, to evacuate affected families and rescue vehicles trapped by the floods. They also provided temporary aid to families in terms of shelter, water, and sanitation.
Miftah emphasized maintaining a state of emergency and continuing preventative measures. He urged swift communication with humanitarian partners to deliver urgent aid to the affected families, complete the assessment of damage to both private and public property, and work on clearing floodwaters that are obstructing movement in neighborhoods and streets.
Miftah praised the role of the Civil Defense and security agencies, particularly the special police forces, for their efforts in limiting losses and protecting residents during the floods.
