Oversight Committee in Al-Mahra Detains 70 People and Shuts Down Dozens of Violating Shops in Intensive Campaign

Yemen Monitor – Newsroom:

The local authority in Al-Mahra governorate has launched a wide-scale field campaign to combat violations and control prices, which has so far resulted in the detention of more than 70 individuals and the closure of dozens of health and commercial establishments.

The inspection visits, supervised by First Deputy Governor Brig. Dr. Mukhtar bin Awadh Al-Jaafari, targeted markets, pharmacies, clinics, laboratories, as well as clothing, food, fish, meat, vegetable, and fruit shops.

Several shops were shut down after being found in violation of official pricing regulations or for failing to clearly display prices, according to the oversight committee.

The deputy governor confirmed that the campaign comes under direct instructions from Governor Mohammed Ali Yasser, who emphasized the importance of strengthening ongoing oversight of markets and health facilities to protect citizens from exploitation and abuses.

Al-Jaafari pointed out that the campaign has been ongoing for several days and will continue intensively in the coming period, in coordination with security forces, the public prosecution, and other relevant authorities, to ensure compliance with price lists and regulations governing both the commercial and health sectors.

The committee urged citizens to report any violations through the following hotlines:

  • Office of Industry and Trade: 784843390
  • Office of Health and Population: 783374513 (via WhatsApp)
  • Fisheries Department: 772867270
  • Office of Agriculture: 776076883

The committee stressed that citizen cooperation in reporting violations is a key factor in the campaign’s success, underscoring that there will be zero tolerance for any breaches that affect people’s lives or impose illegal pricing.
