A new Airbus A320 aircraft named “Kingdom of Awsan” arrived at Aden International Airport on Friday, joining the Yemenia Airways fleet as a qualitative addition to enhance its operational capacity and ease pressure on its flights.
During the reception ceremony, Minister of Transport Abdul Salam Humaid congratulated the ministry’s leadership, Yemenia Airways, and the Yemeni people on this achievement, noting that “Kingdom of Awsan” is the fourth aircraft in the fleet and will significantly help meet the growing demand for travel.
He affirmed that Yemenia is steadily rebuilding its fleet and assets despite difficult circumstances, thanks to the support of the government and the Ministry of Transport. He also pointed to the company’s commitment to the Cabinet’s decision to review ticket prices and sell in the national currency to ease the burden on citizens.
For his part, Chairman of the Board Captain Nasser Mahmoud said the aircraft can accommodate 150 passengers in both business and economy classes, and that its name is inspired by the ancient Yemeni civilization of Awsan.
He explained that the purchase is part of the national carrier’s modernization and development plan, praising the political leadership’s interest in supporting the company. He also revealed a plan to add another aircraft to the fleet at the beginning of 2026.
Meanwhile, Deputy General Manager for Commercial Affairs Mohsen Haidarah stated that the new aircraft’s entry into service as of today will help increase flights to high-demand destinations and open new routes.
He stressed that this achievement was made possible through the efforts of the company’s leadership over the past three years despite major challenges, including the Houthis’ seizure of company funds and the destruction of four of its aircraft at Sana’a Airport.
