Prime Minister Orders Emergency Budget to Reopen 22 May Hospital Following Protests

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:

Yemeni Prime Minister Salem Saleh bin Breik directed today, Monday, an urgent and exceptional budget allocation to reopen the 22 May Surgical and Specialized Hospital in the Mansoura district of the interim capital, Aden. This decision comes after a protest was organized by citizens demanding its reopening.

During his meeting with the hospital’s director, Dr. Nasser Harhara, the Prime Minister instructed the Ministry of Finance to approve an emergency three-month budget to secure necessary supplies and allow the hospital to urgently resume its surgical and specialized services.

These directives were issued after dozens of citizens protested in front of the hospital, which has been closed for more than three months. They held signs demanding that the relevant authorities quickly reopen it and provide medical services, stressing that its closure has caused great suffering, especially for low-income patients.

The hospital’s director reviewed the main challenges that led to the halt in operations and presented suggestions for addressing them. The Prime Minister emphasized the hospital’s vital role in providing healthcare to citizens who cannot afford the high costs of treatment.
