UN Envoy’s Office Concludes Technical Consultations on Yemen Ceasefire

The Office of the UN Special Envoy to Yemen has concluded a series of technical meetings in the Jordanian capital, Amman, bringing together representatives of the Yemeni government and the Joint Forces Command within the UN-sponsored Military Coordination Committee.

According to a statement from the office, the discussions focused on preparations for a potential ceasefire and its accompanying security arrangements, as well as addressing field challenges and ways to resolve them. This included mechanisms for de-escalation, incident management, and security guarantees.

The consultations, building on previous rounds held in December 2024 and January 2025, also explored mechanisms for implementing a comprehensive cessation of hostilities on land, in the air, and at sea, as part of a broader political agreement. Additional topics included measures to protect vital infrastructure, such as energy facilities.

The UN envoy’s chief military adviser, Anthony Hayward, emphasized that the Military Coordination Committee continues to play a pivotal role in building trust between the parties and easing tensions, stressing the importance of its work in creating a conducive environment for a sustainable ceasefire.

The statement concluded by reaffirming the UN Envoy’s Office’s commitment to providing a platform for dialogue and coordination through the Military Coordination Committee, in support of de-escalation efforts and the pursuit of a comprehensive peaceful resolution to the conflict in Yemen.
