Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:

Yemeni Prime Minister Salem Saleh bin Buraik has instructed the Ministry of Endowments and Guidance to conduct a comprehensive review of Hajj and Umrah procedures. The review aims to address deficiencies, improve service quality, and ease the financial burden on Yemeni citizens.

During an evaluation meeting, Bin Buraik emphasized that serving pilgrims is a “religious and moral responsibility” requiring the highest standards of transparency and efficiency. He called for simplifying procedures and adopting objective mechanisms for selecting service providers.

He stressed the need to implement the agreed reform plan between the Ministries of Endowments and Finance, which focuses on restructuring organizational and financial aspects, enhancing oversight of Hajj companies and agencies, ensuring fair allocation of quotas and opportunities, and streamlining registration processes with clear accountability measures.

Attendees also discussed a detailed report on the challenges faced during the 1446 AH Hajj season, emphasizing the importance of practical solutions to avoid recurring issues, particularly the high costs amid the country’s exceptional economic conditions.

The Prime Minister called for effective cooperation with Hajj and Umrah agencies and for drawing on successful international models. He described managing this file as a “national service” that must be handled professionally and free from favoritism.

For their part, the Minister of Endowments and the Deputy for Hajj Affairs outlined the key challenges faced during the last season and presented development proposals to improve the ministry’s performance, reaffirming their commitment to the government’s reform plan.
