Marib’s Industry Office Mandates Use of Yemeni Rial, Warns Against Foreign Currency

Yemen Monitor/Newsroom:

The Industry and Trade Office in Marib governorate has mandated that all merchants and importers across various commercial sectors must exclusively use the Yemeni Rial for all sales and purchases. The office issued this directive, banning the use of foreign currencies, to coincide with the improved exchange rate of the local currency.

A circular from the office emphasized the need to adhere to the exchange rate set by the Central Bank, which is fixed at 428 Yemeni Rials per Saudi Riyal. It also stressed that merchants must clearly display price lists for essential goods within their shops.

The office warned that any violation of the directive or demand to use foreign currency would be met with strict legal action. These measures will begin with reporting offenders to the relevant authorities and may escalate to referring them to the Public Prosecution.

The office urged all merchants to fully comply with these new instructions, stating that those who fail to do so will face full legal responsibility.
