Human Rights Network: Houthis Use Judiciary for Political Retaliation

Yemen Monitor/Newsroom:
The Yemeni Network for Rights and Freedoms has strongly condemned the sentences issued by the Houthi-controlled Central Military Court.
The network affirmed that these sentences prove the militia’s use of the judiciary as a tool for settling political scores and confiscating the property of opponents.
The network expressed its absolute rejection of these rulings, considering them a violation of the principles of justice and human rights. It added that they constitute a new crime in the series of violations committed by the militia against Yemen and its people.
It pointed out that the militia continues to use the judiciary as a weapon to suppress opponents and terrorize civilians in areas under its control, with the aim of silencing free voices and subjugating them.
The network considered these sentences an extension of systematic violations targeting the freedom of Yemeni civilians and revealing the state of fear the militia suffers from in the face of freedom of expression.
The Yemeni Network for Rights and Freedoms called on the United Nations and human rights organizations to intervene urgently and pressure the Houthi militia to stop the unjust rulings and ensure the immediate release of the sentenced detainees.
The network also called on UN institutions and the international community to intervene to overturn these sentences, prevent their implementation, and stop the continued issuance of politically motivated rulings by Houthi-controlled courts.
