Massive Fire Engulfs Mountains of Milhan in Al-Mahwit Amid Environmental Disaster Warnings

Yemen Monitor | Newsroom:
A massive fire broke out on Monday evening in Wadi Al-Sadah Mountain in Milhan District, Al-Mahwit Governorate, with flames quickly spreading due to strong winds and dry conditions, consuming shrubs, grass, and even rocks across the highlands.
Local residents reported that the fire swept through caves used for storing fodder and firewood, inflicting severe losses on farmers and herders who rely on these supplies to survive during dry spells.
Citizens have called on authorities to issue an urgent directive to all provinces and districts instructing local leaders to raise awareness about the dangers of deliberate fires, and to impose strict penalties, including fines, on anyone found guilty of starting fires without justification.
Eyewitnesses stated that some individuals intentionally burn specific areas but lose control due to high winds, turning the fires into full-blown environmental disasters that kill wildlife and birds and completely destroy the natural vegetation.
Residents expressed growing frustration over the increasing frequency of such fires, saying they now hear about new blazes every two to three days, worsened by harsh weather conditions that fuel the spread of flames.
Citizens urged the government to launch large-scale awareness campaigns and establish well-equipped firefighting teams to contain damage before it escalates. Others raised their hands in prayer, asking God for safety and protection for all.
