Red Cross Opens New Clinic in Houthi-Run Prison

Yemen Monitor / Saada / Exclusive:

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) announced on Monday that it has opened a new clinic in the newly built pretrial detention prison in Saada—a facility that was bombed by the US in April.

The ICRC stated that the clinic was launched in cooperation with prison authorities and aims to improve the delivery of healthcare services to detainees at the facility.

Christine Cipolla, head of the ICRC delegation in Yemen, said:
“By supporting the establishment of a functional and well-equipped health facility, the ICRC is helping ensure that detainees receive the basic medical care they need, preventing chronic health deterioration and the spread of disease.”

The new clinic will provide detainees with timely, adequate, and dignified access to healthcare. All inmates in the prison are expected to benefit from it.

The establishment of this medical clinic is part of broader humanitarian efforts by the ICRC to support Yemen’s prison system and ensure detainees have access to essential services, in line with both national and international standards.

Dozens of African migrants were killed in the U.S. airstrike on the prison in April.
