Yemen’s “Al-Islah Party” in Taiz Warns of Economic Deterioration and Calls for Urgent Water Crisis Solution

Yemen Monitor/Newsroom:

The Yemeni Islah Party in Taiz Governorate has called on the Presidential Leadership Council and the government for urgent intervention to address the economic deterioration and the suffocating water crisis plaguing the governorate. It warned against the continued decline of the national currency and rising prices, describing it as a “national catastrophe threatening citizens’ lives and the nation’s stability.”

This came in a political statement issued by Islah Taiz on Sunday, following its review of the latest developments in the country generally and the governorate specifically, amidst what it described as the proliferation of crises and attempts to disrupt the liberation process and weaken popular support for the resistance.

The statement affirmed that “the march of liberation and resistance continues until the state is restored and the Houthi coup is overthrown,” stressing that the national struggle and defense of the republican system are unwavering responsibilities.

The party urged the local authority to treat the water crisis in Taiz as an “emergency,” and to establish a permanent mechanism and operations room to effectively manage available water resources, ensuring the provision of drinking water to citizens in various city neighborhoods.

Islah praised in its statement the freedom of expression enjoyed by Taiz Governorate, considering it one of the achievements of resistance and steadfastness. However, it simultaneously called for “rationalizing media discourse and transforming freedom of opinion into a tool for construction and awareness, not a means of incitement.” In the same context, it condemned what it described as the “systematic repression” practiced by the Houthi group in areas under its control, citing the martyrdom of Sheikh Saleh Hantous as an example of repeated violations.

The party also affirmed its rejection of any proposals that undermine Islamic identity or contradict the values of Yemeni society, criticizing what it called “the promotion of alien terms such as cultural matrices and minority cultures.” It considered these concepts as not reflective of the homogenous reality of the Yemeni people, and aimed — according to the statement — at targeting Islah and destabilizing the republican project.

The statement called on all political forces, media professionals, and advocacy platforms to cooperate and work together in facing current challenges, supporting the people in their suffering, mobilizing national energies to support the national army and security forces, confronting the Houthi coup project, and restoring the state.

Islah concluded its statement by affirming its support for the people’s causes and consolidating the values of moderation and centrism, calling for strengthening community solidarity and continuing the national struggle for the Republic.
