UKMTO Warns Ships Heading to Yemen’s Hudaidah Ports of Potential Strikes
Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:
The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) issued a fresh warning on Saturday about renewed risks facing commercial vessels bound for Hudaidah ports in western Yemen, which are under the control of the Houthi group, designated as a terrorist organization.
The UKMTO stated that there is a real possibility of new airstrikes targeting ships, cranes, or maritime facilities, which could cause “severe damage” to vessels attempting to access the port of Hudaidah.
It emphasized that the threat level remains high in both the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden, cautioning that navigation near “Houthi-controlled ports” requires the highest levels of vigilance and caution.
The advisory urged vessels to continuously assess the risks associated with ongoing military operations in the region, stressing the importance of close coordination with relevant authorities and adherence to maritime guidance to avoid potential hazards.
This is the third warning issued by UKMTO in the past three months, following similar advisories in May and June regarding ongoing threats near Hudaidah. UKMTO serves as a key international authority for issuing maritime alerts and providing technical support to navigation during maritime conflicts.
