Taiz Health Office: Over 4,000 Cases of Epidemic Diseases Reported Since Beginning of the Year, Multiple Deaths Recorded

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:
The Media Director at the Taiz Health Office, Tayseer Al-Sama’i, has revealed that over 4,000 cases of various epidemic diseases have been recorded in the governorate since the beginning of the year, including confirmed cases and several deaths.
In a press statement, Al-Sama’i stated that the number of acute watery diarrhea and cholera cases reached 1,600, of which 142 were confirmed through laboratory testing, and 5 deaths were reported.
Regarding measles, he reported 1,246 suspected cases, resulting in 6 deaths.
Additionally, 1,950 cases of febrile illnesses were recorded, including dengue fever, leptospirosis (locally known as “Al-Makrafis”), and Rift Valley fever, with one related death.
These figures highlight the severe challenges facing the healthcare sector in Taiz, which has been under an ongoing Houthi-imposed siege for eight years, amid limited resources and a lack of adequate support from government agencies and health organizations for prevention and response efforts.
