Yemeni Government Condemns Houthi Crime Against Sheikh and his Family in Raymah

Yemen Monitor/Newsroom:
The Yemeni government has strongly condemned what it described as a “brutal crime” committed by the Houthi group against Sheikh Saleh Hantous, a prominent Quranic teacher in Raymah governorate. The incident involved besieging his home, shelling it with RPGs, and preventing aid to the injured.
Minister of Information, Culture, and Tourism, Moammar Al-Eryani, stated in a press release today, Tuesday, that Houthi militias besieged Sheikh Hantous’s home in Al-Mu’adhab village, Bani Nafie’a district, Al-Salfiyah, using over 20 military vehicles. They then fired direct shells at the house, seriously injuring him and his wife.
Al-Eryani emphasized that the “militia didn’t stop there; they prevented aid to the victims or their transfer to the hospital, in a blatant violation of all humanitarian laws, tribal customs, and religious values.”
The minister clarified that this crime follows the Houthis’ closure of the Quranic school that Sheikh Hantous had run for over thirty years, and the burning of its contents. This is part of a systematic attempt to erase the moderate religious identity of Yemeni society and impose an alien, sectarian project imported from Iran.
Al-Eryani added that these violations reflect the Houthis’ political hypocrisy. They exploit slogans of “supporting Gaza” while practicing organized terrorism against Yemenis, shedding civilian blood, and destroying mosques and Quranic centers. This, he noted, is part of an Iranian expansionist project targeting Yemen’s national and religious identity.
The minister reiterated that the militia’s crimes will not go unpunished, and that the Yemeni people are committed to resisting their bloody project until the state is restored, stressing that the blood of the innocent will not be shed in vain.
The Yemeni minister called on the international community and human rights organizations to condemn this crime and take a firm stance against these violations. This includes urgent action to designate the Houthis as a terrorist group, dry up the group’s funding sources, and support the legitimate government’s efforts to end the coup and restore the state.
