“Yemeni Journalists Syndicate” Condemns Incitement Campaigns Against Journalist Al-Jurayri and Demands His Protection
Yemen Monitor – Newsroom:
The Yemeni Journalists Syndicate branch in Hadramawt, Shabwa, and Al-Mahrah expressed deep concern over the incitement and smear campaigns targeting journalist Abduljabbar Awad Al-Jurayri. These campaigns followed his media statements in which he discussed the state of press freedoms and violations against journalists, in addition to expressing his views on public affairs.
The Syndicate condemned these campaigns, which have been active on social media, warning of their danger to the journalist’s safety. It stated that the situation reflects a worrying escalation in hostile rhetoric against the press, amid a lack of legal protections for those working in the field.
The Syndicate noted that the campaigns are being led by individuals affiliated with a political party, in an attempt to silence free voices and undermine freedom of expression. It called on the Attorney General and relevant authorities to act swiftly to protect journalists and hold those inciting hatred and violence accountable.
The Syndicate affirmed its full solidarity with journalist Al-Jurayri, praising his courage in continuing his professional work despite the challenges. It also called on the media community, unions, and civil society organizations to publicly express their support for targeted journalists in defense of freedom of opinion and expression.
