Yemen Monitor – Newsroom:

Ibrahim Saber, Governor of Cairo, received an official Yemeni delegation on Wednesday at the governorate’s headquarters, as part of the delegation’s visit to Egypt to participate in a workshop titled “Strengthening Institutional and Economic Resilience in Yemen”, organized by the Arab Administrative Development Organization under the League of Arab States, from June 22 to 26.

The Egyptian governor welcomed the Yemeni delegation, emphasizing the deep historical and fraternal ties between Egypt and Yemen, and the importance of this meeting in the context of exchanging expertise to enhance local governance capabilities—seen as a foundation for sustainable development and social stability.

Governor Saber presented Egypt’s efforts to tackle challenges such as informal settlements, traffic congestion, and infrastructure development, citing major projects like “Al-Asmarat“, “Rawdat Al-Sayeda“, and “Ma’an” as successful models for rehabilitating unsafe areas.

He also highlighted Cairo’s work on restoring heritage areas like Al-Muizz Street and Al-Hussein district, along with efforts toward digital transformation and the modernization of citizen services through technological service centers.

The meeting included a documentary film showcasing the landmarks and achievements of Cairo Governorate, followed by an open dialogue where the governor answered the Yemeni delegation’s inquiries about local governance experiences in Cairo and how these could be applied in Yemen.

The visit concluded with a field tour of the governorate’s technological center to observe the mechanisms for handling complaints and providing services to citizens.

The Yemeni delegation included Awad Saleh, Deputy Minister of Local Administration; Rania Abdel Razek from the Arab Administrative Development Organization; Basem Al-Saqeer, representative of the UNDP Yemen Office; and several local Yemeni officials. The meeting was also attended by deputy governors of Cairo and officials from Egypt’s Ministry of Local Development.
