Israeli Defense Minister: I Ordered the Army to Prepare a Plan to Confront the Houthis Like Iran
Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:
Israeli Defense Minister Yisrael Katz said on Tuesday that Tel Aviv will treat the Houthis in Sana’a the same way it treats Tehran, indicating that he has instructed the army to prepare a plan against the Iran-backed group.
Earlier, a senior political official and spokesperson for the Houthi militants stated that the group is not bound by the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Iran.
Mohammed al-Bukhaiti told The Wall Street Journal that military operations against Israel will continue “until the aggression on Gaza stops and the blockade is lifted.”
The Houthis, allies of Iran, remained on the sidelines of the war launched by Israel earlier this month, though they fired some missiles at Israel.
Trump administration halted a two-month bombing campaign against the Houthis in May, saying the group had agreed to suspend its attacks on naval vessels in the Red Sea, which were launched in response to the Israeli war on Gaza.
Israel launched its war on Iran on June 13, targeting nuclear facilities, military and civilian sites, and assassinating senior military leaders—including the commander of the Revolutionary Guard and the chief of staff—as well as prominent nuclear scientists. Iran responded with a series of missile attacks that caused unprecedented destruction in several Israeli cities.
The U.S. supported Israel by striking key nuclear sites in Iran early Sunday. Trump later announced a ceasefire agreement starting this morning, which Israel accepted. Tehran also said it would abide by the deal as long as Israel does not violate it.
