Yemen Monitor/Newsroom:
The Head of Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council, Rashad Al-Alimi, held an expanded meeting today, Tuesday, in the interim capital Aden. The meeting included members of the Supreme Security Committee and heads of local authorities in the operational theater of the Fourth Military Region. The discussions focused on security, military, and economic developments, and enhancing coordination to protect the internal front from escalating terrorist and economic threats.
The meeting was attended by Minister of Defense Lieutenant General Mohsen Al-Daari and Minister of Interior Major General Ibrahim Haidan, alongside the governors of Aden, Lahj, Abyan, Dhale, and Taiz, and a number of senior leaders from security and intelligence agencies.
The Governor of the Central Bank of Yemen, Ahmed Ghaleb Al-Maabaki, provided a comprehensive briefing on the economic situation, focusing on current monetary challenges, particularly the sharp fluctuations in exchange rates. He emphasized the urgent need for swift measures to deter speculation and protect the national currency. He also stressed the necessity of supporting the bank in implementing its monetary policies and enhancing financial oversight to ensure market stability.
The discussion also touched upon the importance of expanding economic interventions to protect food security, developing the banking system, and achieving financial stability, especially in light of declining revenues, the ongoing effects of the war, and the halt of oil exports.
For their part, the Minister of Defense and the Minister of Interior presented field reports on the military and security situation on the southern and western fronts. They noted the thwarting of infiltration and sabotage attempts carried out by cells linked to the Houthis and terrorist organizations colluding with them. Emphasis was placed on continuing security campaigns in the governorates of Aden, Taiz, Lahj, Dhale, and Abyan, which have resulted in the apprehension of several individuals wanted for terrorism, arms smuggling, money laundering, and drug trafficking.
The meeting discussed the mechanism for coordinating intelligence and security efforts to monitor sleeper cells and enhance protection for vital facilities and local and international institutions.
During the meeting, President Al-Alimi called on the military and security establishment to redouble intelligence efforts and security precautions, considering that the current phase requires exceptional solidarity to confront internal and external threats. He also stressed the need to continue coordination with the international community to deter cross-border threats, especially concerning arms smuggling by sea and Iranian interventions through support for extremist groups.
The President of the Council praised the security achievements in Taiz and the success of local and military authorities in uncovering Houthi sabotage plots. He called for continued intensification of efforts to secure liberated cities and protect development paths.
The meeting affirmed the importance of activating the Supreme National Security Council and unifying efforts between the Central Bank and security agencies to mitigate economic damage. It also emphasized accelerating plans for restructuring military and security institutions and enhancing their operational capabilities in facing current challenges.
