86 Illegal African Migrants Arrive on Yemen’s Shabwah Coast

Yemen Monitor/Newsroom:

Security forces in Yemen’s eastern Shabwah governorate announced on Sunday the arrival of a smuggling boat carrying 86 irregular migrants to the Kida coast in Radhum district. This marks a new wave of undocumented migrants arriving from Horn of Africa countries.

A statement issued by the governorate’s police clarified that the boat disembarked 38 Ethiopian migrants (30 males and 8 females), in addition to 48 Somali migrants, mostly male, on the coast.

The police confirmed that they have taken the necessary legal measures to address this incident, as part of their efforts to maintain security and stability and to limit the negative impacts and security repercussions of the phenomenon of irregular migration witnessed on the governorate’s coasts.

Shabwah police leadership called on the Yemeni government, the supreme state leadership, and the International Organization for Migration to intervene urgently to halt the flow of irregular migrants. They noted that Yemen, given its difficult economic and security conditions resulting from the ongoing war since the Houthi militia’s coup, is unable to bear further burdens stemming from this escalating phenomenon.
