Widespread Rights Condemnation of Threats Against Journalist Al-Aqlani, Calls for His Protection

Yemen Monitor/Newsroom:
Yemeni human rights and media organizations have condemned threats made against journalist Yassin Al-Aqlani.
Al-Aqlani, a correspondent for “Yemen Shabab Net” website, reported receiving an explicit threat of arrest and forced transfer to Aden. The threat came from the brother of the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education, following a journalistic investigation Al-Aqlani published regarding irregularities in high school exams for Yemenis in Egypt.
The journalist expressed his readiness to publish any official clarification from the relevant authorities, while holding them responsible for his safety.
The Journalists’ Syndicate in Taiz and the National Organization for Media Professionals “Sada” expressed their full solidarity with Al-Aqlani. They called for an urgent investigation into the incident and rejected the intimidation tactics employed by some individuals.
Both organizations emphasized the necessity of protecting press freedom and the right of journalists to carry out their work without fear, considering these threats a flagrant violation of media freedoms.
“Sada” urged the Prosecutor General, the Journalists’ Syndicate, and the International Federation of Journalists to take urgent legal measures to protect the journalist and ensure accountability for those involved.
