Popular Protests Against Deteriorating Services in Aden and Abyan, Security Forces Fire Shots to Disperse Demonstrators

The cities of Aden and Abyan (southern Yemen) witnessed angry protests due to the deterioration of basic services, with thousands of citizens taking to the streets in massive demonstrations demanding improved services. They raised banners calling for the provision of electricity and water, and the disbursement of delayed salaries.
In Aden, security forces affiliated with the Southern Transitional Council(STC) dispersed protesters by firing shots into the air, while the city of Zinjibar in the neighboring Abyan Governorate witnessed a large women’s demonstration denouncing the deteriorating living conditions and the collapse of public services.

The protesters demanded that the concerned authorities find urgent solutions to end the worsening crises and improve the living conditions of citizens, holding the government fully responsible for the deterioration of the situation.
These protests come amidst the continued worsening of economic and service conditions, most notably the power outages due to the depletion of fuel operating power generation plants.
