Prominent Yemeni poet and short-story writer Yassin al-Bukkali passed away on Thursday in Sana’a at the age of 48, following a deterioration in his health due to complications from diabetes.
Al-Bukkali was born in Raymah Governorate in 1977 and graduated from Sana’a University with a degree in Philosophy in 2000.
He published several poetry collections that received wide acclaim, such as “Seasonal Sorrows” and “A Glimmer Fading to Life,” and participated in local and international literary events. He received prestigious awards, including the President of the Republic’s Prize for Poetry (2008) and the Al-Sanousi Poetry Prize (2018).
Al-Bukkali was known for his deeply humanistic style that addressed issues of the homeland, exile, and painful personal experiences, making him one of the influential voices in the Yemeni and Arab cultural scene.
He was a member of the Yemeni Writers Union and other cultural institutions, leaving behind a literary legacy that is remembered as a symbol of contemporary poetry in Yemen.
