Oman Announces Foiling Attempt to Smuggle Communication Devices to Yemen via Sarfait Crossing

Yemen Monitor/Newsroom:
The Customs of the Sultanate of Oman announced yesterday, Wednesday, that it had foiled an attempt to smuggle a quantity of communication devices to Yemen via the joint Sarfait border crossing with Yemen’s Al Mahrah Governorate.
The Customs stated in a post on its official “X” platform account that it managed to seize 24 wireless devices that were hidden inside the personal belongings of a smuggler while attempting to bring them into Yemeni territory, without disclosing further details about the incident.
This operation comes within the framework of tightening control procedures at the Omani border crossings, coinciding with warnings of the involvement of some Omani crossings in smuggling technical and communication equipment to areas controlled by the Houthis.
These measures are in response to security reports indicating the Houthi group’s use of these devices in enhancing their military and organizational activities, according to local and regional sources.
