Rights Activist: Smear Campaigns Will Not Deter Aden’s Women from Demanding Basic Services

Yemen Monitor/Newsroom:

Lawyer Huda Al-Sarari, head of the Defense Foundation for Rights and Freedoms, affirmed that the crises plaguing the city of Aden have driven women to come out strongly to demand their basic rights, especially in the areas of electricity and essential services.

She clarified that these demands have been subjected to smear and politicization campaigns aimed at exploiting them in political conflicts.

In a post, Al-Sarari pointed out that women in Aden have launched a resounding cry demanding a fundamental right that boils down to the provision of electricity and basic services. However, she warned that these legitimate demands have become the target of politicization campaigns seeking to transform just humanitarian issues into tools for political conflicts.

She added that talking about electricity and water is not merely an intellectual luxury, but rather a matter of life and death for families struggling to survive. She considered that attempts to distort women’s struggle are nothing but a continuation of dirty tactics targeting the rights of the afflicted for the benefit of political agendas that have no connection to their problems.

Al-Sarari spoke about the importance of collective awareness, noting that it has become an effective weapon in the hands of citizens, especially women. She emphasized that demanding rights is not treason, but a national responsibility, and that political exploitation has become clear to everyone.

She also warned that some new political components are seeking to play the role of savior, even though they are part of the problem, as they import crises to distract citizens from the roots of their suffering. She affirmed that these forces turn rights into a political commodity used for bargaining.

In conclusion, Al-Sarari called on everyone to be the voice of truth, stressing that the people, especially women, are writing a new chapter of peaceful resistance. She affirmed that awareness is the strongest weapon in the face of corruption, and that unity and solidarity among the components of society are the way to confront exploitation.

She concluded her appeal by urging support for the protesters and not allowing their efforts to be stolen, calling on everyone to stand united in the face of any exploitation of their struggle for their rights.
